Epsom Derby Result 2009: Sea The Stars Classic double |
|
Sea The Stars, 11/4
second favourite in The Derby betting, was a comfortable winner of the Epsom
Derby 2009 and in the process became the first horse in twenty years to land
the 2,000 Guineas and Epsom Derby double. It was Richard Hughes's mount, Masterofthehorse (16/1), who stayed on from the rear to grab third. While, Rip Van Winkle (6/1), who the choice of Aidan O'Brien's stable-jockey Johnny Murtagh who came in fourth best (beaten by two of his stablemates). The first English-based colt home was Crowded House in sixth. Crowded House was given a typical Jamie Spencer ride - tailed off out the back before running on far too late. What Spencer thought he was doing out the back off a very steady pace is anyone's guess. Spencer should learn the horses either stay or they don't and playing exaggerated hold-up tactics in slow race is a recipe for disaster. The poor horse deserves another chance to prove he is better than this. As for the others, Golden Sword tried to make all off quite a steady pace and was an honourable fifth while Age of Aquarius, also up with the pace, dropped back to seventh. The major disappointment was the York Dante hero Black Bear Island who manage only tenth and who is surely better than that. Full Epsom Derby Result 2009:
