Epsom Derby Result 2008: New Approach victorious

New Approach, who trainer Jim Bolger had stated only seven days before would not be running at Epsom, won the 2008 Epsom Derby cosily.

New Approach stayed on strongly to beat Tartan Bearer with Casual Conquest back in third. New Approach seemed to be throwing his race away early on when he pulled very hard but when the gaps came, and jockey Kevin Manning made a few late on, New Approach took full advantage.

New Approach appears to have found his optimum trip of a mile and a half. Despite being a superstar at a mile - he was second in both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas - New Approach seems even better over middle distances.

It was a first Epsom Derby success for Jim Bolger and his stable jockey and son-in-law Kevin Manning. The horse is owned by Princess Haya of Jordan, who is married to Sheikh Mohammed, the multi-billionaire ruler of Dubai. It has always been the Sheikh's desire to win The Epsom Derby.
