Henrythenavigator may run in The Epsom Derby

Henrythenavigator, who beat the favourite New Approach to win the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday, may yet line up for the Epsom Derby on Saturday June 7.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien appeared to pour cold water on the Epsom Derby idea immediately after Henrythenavigator's brilliant win in the first colts' Classic.

It now appears that the Coolmore Stud owners of John Magnier and Michael Tabor may have suggested the u-turn, as winning the Epsom Derby is always their the number one priority.

Certainly Henrythenavigator was running on strongly and appeared to outstay New Approach when landing the one-mile 2000 Guineas. In addition, Henrythenavigator is related to several middle-distance performances and that suggests that the mile and a half trip of Epsom may not be beyond him.

At this stage Aidan O'Brien has simply ruled the Epsom Derby back into Henrythenavigator's calculations. Other options include a rematch with New Approach in the Irish 2000 Guineas.
