Sandown hero Centennial 10/1 in Derby betting

27/04/2008: Centennial was cut in the Epsom Derby betting after winning yesterday's Classic Trial at Sandown. Centennial made all for victory and the current best-priced betting odds for Epsom are 10/1 with the excellent Bet365 Online Bookmaker.

Trainer John Gosden gave Centennial supporters even more to cheer them. The trainer reckoned Centennial would improve a ton for this victory and that he had not been hard on the horse at all at home in the lead-up to this victory. Jockey Jimmy Fortune echoed those views.

Gosden likes this trial and Centennial has already gone one better than Gosden's previous Derby hero Benny The Dip who was only runner-up in this Sandown Classic Trial on his way to Classic glory.

Centennial beat Whistledownthewind, who will not run in the Derby at Epsom, and the third home was Feared in Flight.

Centennial's next race may be against Epsom Derby betting favourite Twice Over in the Dante Stakes at York, though Gosden had not ruled out the Lingfield Derby Trial as an alternative engagement. Either way, all roads will lead to Epsom for Centennial, who was supplemented for the race by his enthusiastic owner Michael O'Flynn in March at a cost of eight thousand pounds.
